SKYE BLUE

Although it’s Man Month I felt compelled to write a piece on sluts – female sluts to be precise. Why you ask? Well the answer is you (yes, I’m looking at you dear readers) made me do it. You see, the comments you all left on Sex: We ALL Want It and Sex is AWESOME! touched on issues that each and every woman in the slut camp has had to consider at one time or another. Specifically:

1. How discerning (I know, I know – you’re surprised that sluts even know what this word means) to be when choosing a bed mate.
2. How much power we, the owners of the much coveted cookies, have in the mating game.
3. Having to face being labelled a slut (hooray!) or a prude (booo!) based on how long we wait to give it up.
4. How difficult it is to find a regular source of (good) sex in life without being in a relationship.
5. How to reclaim and redefine the term, so we can all proudly and freely express our sexuality.

Your thoughts about how women who enjoy sex are perceived, women’s (often untapped) power in the boudoir and reclaiming the word slut intrigued me. So, motivated by yourkeen interest in the topic and my own desire to see what was being said about us in cyberspace, I spent a few hours compiling my very own list of the best slut related links I could find. I hope you find it all as thought-provoking, funny and/or eye-opening as I did.

Skye’s It’s All About Us Sluts List

1. Still wondering just what makes a woman a slut? Well, here’s a definition I found on urbandictionary.com that praises sluts. Clearly the guy who wrote this understands the importance of our role in society…Slut: Someone who provides a very needed service for the community and sleeps with everyone, even the guy that has no shot at getting laid and everyone knows it. She will give him a sympathy fuck either because someone asked her to or she just has to fuck everyone she knows. These are great people, and without them sex crimes would definitely increase. Thank you slut, where ever you are.
2. Looking for an interesting read on sluts? Then pick up Generation S.L.U.T. (Sexually Liberated Urban Teens), by Marty Beckerman. If you want an insider’s look at how Gen Y gets down, this book is for you. FYI: Parents of Gen Yers will definitely find it disturbing, and there’s a good chance the childless cynics among you will too.
3. If you’ve been trying to perfect your slutty look but still don’t think you’ve got it locked, watch this to learn how to do it right.
4. Not sure if you’re really a slut and want to get clear on the issue? Then take this test. For those inquiring minds that want to know I scored 56% – much lower than I thought I would (sigh).
5. Check out this great article by a man who gets it.
6. I also found an essay (that will make you want to pull your hair out) by a woman who is so lost in a shit storm she’s swallowing the stuff.
7. More proof that for folks who aren’t in the know think a slut (in the pejorative sense) is virtually anyone with a slit and tits. (Straight madness).
