Earlier this year, somewhere between our celebration of independent, emotional, independent, slutty and clear-thinking women, and our second run at all things kinky, I picked up on a trend on Twitter that made me take notice. Over the course of a few days (if not weeks), a number of my female tweeps were discussing things like not settling for Mr. He’ll-Do-For-Now and choosing to be celibate until their very own version of Mr. Right showed up.

These women were letting the world know that due to the lack of emotional fulfillment they were experiencing in the arms of their NSA shagging partners, they were making the decision to keep their legs closed until they found men worthy of all they had to give – emotionally, mentally and of course physically.

Now as we all know opting to be celibate, whatever the reason, is a difficult choice: one that begs (at the very least) the following two questions.

1. What’s a girl (or guy – because believe it or not there are plenty of men making the same choice for the very same reason these days) when she gets the inevitable urge to scratch the ‘itch’ as she waits for the right man to come along?
2. How do you combat the pangs of loneliness that are likely to hit as you make your way through our extremely couple focused world?

The issue of voluntary celibacy and the questions it raised resulted in many long conversations with my single girlfriends, and I shared most of the widely divergent answers, perspectives and insights on these issues with Elizabeth and Sam. The result? The MetAnotherFrog.com crew deciding that it would be a good idea to discuss how to survive a self-imposed sexual drought right here on our blog – at some point in the future.

Well dear readers, the future has officially arrived and for the next four weeks we’ll be tackling any and everything related to getting yourself through a long spell of sexless nights. For the next while this blog will be a sex free (well…at least the partner kind) haven for all the singles out there who’ve chosen alone (in spite of all the societal messages that tell us alone isn’t okay) and the primal urges each of us face that (in our weaker moments) often compel us to reach for the nearest ‘live blanket’ against our better judgement. (Yep, we know. We’ve been there too. Le sigh.)

Ladies and Gents Drought Survival Month, as we’ve decided to call it, starts tomorrow and we hope to see you then.
