SAM SHARPE and SKYE BLUE
So Skye and I recently attended our first kinky party.
It won’t be my last.
I didn’t participate in any of the activities; I was content to be a spectator. But a gathering of sexually liberated people, most of them in costumes, activated previously unknown or unused areas of my reptilian brain, areas that apparently have everything to do with turning me on. The end result being that in my imagination I skirted the line between voyeur and exhibitionist, seer and seen. If in fact life is but a stage and we are just players, my brain’s pleasure centres had me alternating spots between featured performer and sitting centre stage.
Now, I don’t think I’ll ever graduate to actively participating in the action. But you never know. I found the party, its participants, or should I say the community, to be welcoming and generous with their time and energy. And it was the energy created in the room that I found stimulating more than any leather-clad lass. This energy had me walking around in a perpetual state of subdued arousal (if that makes any sense). I had a permanent semi in my pants that made me thank God I was wearing a fitted pair of boxer briefs. See, this energy represented freedom, freedom to be yourself, freedom to express sexual and sensual desires without fear of judgment. And tell me people, is there anything sexier than that.
One more thing; I lied about not participating in any of the activities. Truth is, after trying fruitlessly to get Skye to let the resident artiste paint her bosom (yes, there was body painting), she acquiesced only after I promised to be painted as well. Ever a man of my word, I doffed my shirt and allowed a portion of my torso to be painted. It was a cool experience. Not quite a turn on but I did feel a little buzz. Again, I think it was the energy in the room for as I stood there bare chested in a room full of strangers all self-consciousness dissipated; but not at the expense of self-awareness (though I must say looking at the pictures reminded me that I need to get back in the gym, lose a few pounds around the middle so I can regain and maintain my sexy). And that my friends is a powerful cocktail when drinking from the well of your own sexuality.

As Sam has already mentioned, in addition to the both us losing our kinky play part virginity recently, we also had the pleasure of having our rather glorious chests (mine being the more epic of course, right Jax?) decorated by a fabulous bodypainter. Hence the very titillating (yes, I know I’m cheesy) pictures, which incidentally are also our new avatars.
Anyhoo, as my cleavage was painted I flirted wildly with fell into conversation with the very charming bodypaint artist, @joshuamayhem. Both his craft and his winning personality intrigued me. So of course I asked him for an interview. Here’s hoping you all enjoy it…

Skye: When you first started out as an artist, did you think you’d eventually be involved in bodypainting?
JM: No, not at all. When I began doing airbrushing back in high school, bodypainting wasn’t acceptable in the mainstream media and society. Had I known about bodypainting back then, I would be in a very different place today in my career than I am today, that’s for sure.
Skye: How long have you been doing bodypainting in the adults-only community in Canada?
JM: I began bodypainting event patrons at The Everything To Do With Sex show in Toronto in 2008. But I had already been doing mainstream vanilla bodypainting and airbrushed temporary tattoos on models for photoshoots and parties years earlier.
Skye: What type of images are you asked to draw at an event like that?
JM: Generally lots of temporary tattoos on women’s chest, asses and occasionally even next to their privates. (Shrugs and grins) It’s really a tough job, but someone has to do it.
Skype: Your work has you in contact with lots of people who work in the sex industry (strippers, porn stars, etc.), as well as within the swinger, fetish and kinky communities. Has that reality changed the scope of your sex/dating life in any way?
JM: Well it’s brought me some very interesting clientele, as well as an array of friends and acquaintances that I wouldn’t otherwise have. Bodypainting naughty people gets me up close and personal with some very attractive and open women, in some very interesting places. Sometimes they find me to be of interest, and of course I reap some benefits.
Skye: You’ve been doing this work for a while and I’m sure you’ve seen a lot of things. What would you say is the most interesting experience you’ve had as a bodypainter?
JM: I guess the experience that stands out most for me is the time I was bodypainting live on air on Velvet Skye’s X-rated live internet cam show, called the V show. It was the X-mas episode and I was painting the Goddess Orabella’s breasts and suddenly Velvet, who was sitting just a couple of feet away, started playing with a vibrator. What happened after that I won’t say, but let me assure you that it truly was unforgettable.
Skye: What is it you most enjoy about your work?
JM: The work that I do is very artistically and technically challenging, I also like people and I love women.
Skye: In a previous discussion you told me about a design you had in mind for a particular person based on her background and looks. When a client leaves making the decision of what image to paint up to you, do you base your design on those same factors for everyone you paint? Is that how you chose the designs you did for Sam and I?
JM: Everything is a factor when I choose a design, literally. Out of all of my peers worldwide, I believe that I have one of the most visually and ethnically diverse portfolio of models around. I paint ‘em all; people of every background, shape and size – big or small. (Laughs) I think I should make that my motto.
Skye: Even men?
JM: I have no issues with bodypainting anyone, really. To date most of my clients and models are women, however over the last couple of years more and more men are coming to me to get painted. I’m one of the few male bodypainters around that will actually paint men. When I’m working people’s bodies are simply canvases, and since they’re generally paying me a pretty penny to work my artistic magic, my clients behave – unless of course I ask them not to (smiles).
Skye: If someone wanted to hire you for a private party how much would it cost? What about a custom of design? What is the minimum price?
JM: I adjust my rates according to who is hiring me and the circumstances, but let’s say it is around $300 to have me come to paint for a few hours. I do a lot of custom work and house calls. A lot of people hire me to do a temporary versions of future permanent tattoos so that they can see if they like it or not and that costs $100-$200 a visit.
Skye: What is the most fun event you’ve been involved in as an artist?
JM: I tend to have the most fun at the Sex convention shows and theme nights at swingers clubs.
Skye: What is the next big event you’ll be at?
JM: Things happen so fast for me I can’t say which is next for sure. But if anyone wants to know where I’ll be next or see samples of my work they can check out my website joshuamayhem.com, shoot me an email at Joshua at joshuamayhem dot com or just call 416.802.4332.

Sam – HOT.
Skye – DAMN !!
Years ago for a photo shoot – I’d been asked if I could be body painted. Not fully but partial – upper torso … it was a very different experience. And I’m ticklish as hell, so it was quite an effort on my part not to squirm.
Hats off on losing your kinky party virginity
I’ve organized a swingers party before in London ‘cos I was (and still am) in the events line of work; and the most adventurous would be me taking a boyf to the London Sex-Expo at Earls Court.
