SKYE BLUE
Last week myself, Sam, and our girl Vivi attended the 2011 Feminist Porn Awards (if it’s the first time hearing about them – in which case I should be asking you where you been – click here) and a good time was had by all. Though we initially had our doubts, after the first few clips of porn we saw at the three day event (details to come in a moment) we now agree without a doubt that Feminist Porn totally ROCKS. That said…not all Feminist Porn is created equal. Please allow me to elaborate…

Pictured left to right: Dylan Uscher, Link Ross and Sophia St. James.
I hustled my very tired behind to the Gladstone, for the FPA Launch Party, last Wednesday after putting in a long day of work. I got their just before nine, about two hours after it had begun and the place was packed. The crowd was mostly female and definitely of the perv persuasion, so I fit right in. As soon as I found a spot close to the stage to watch the show, the audience was treated to a fantastic burlesque number by the very fierce, West Indian Mae West, Sophia St. James . Next, Alison Lee, Director of the FPAs, introduced the clips and the smut started rolling.
Before I go on, let me just say I had no idea what to expect. I’m not a porn film aficionado by any stretch of the imagination (though I could stare at naughty photographs for hours) and I didn’t have a clue as to what exactly constituted Feminist Porn. All I knew was that I was going be seeing watching some smut that was likely to be different (in ways yet to be determined) from any mainstream porn I’d ever seen.
And different it was! From the moment the first clip, Said and Done by Link Ross, started to play I was mesmerized. Not so much because I was turned on, but more because I had never seen anything like it before. The clips featured the first real queer girl porn (i.e. not the garden variety porn featuring Barbie’s licking, sucking and moaning for male viewers) I’d seen in my life. The second clip, Picnic in the Rain by Sam Martin was just as interesting.
But it was the third and final clip that I most enjoyed. Maybe He’s Gifted by N. Maxwell Lander and Beau Charlie, featured an absolutely amazing track, beautiful cinematography, and hard, fast action that was fun to watch. Please note, I didn’t say hot. Just fun. You see, the first few clips of feminist porn I saw left me feeling curious more than titillated. So, if I had only attended the launch party, I’d probably be walking around telling people that feminist porn isn’t all that hot (and boy would I be wrong, but more lukewarm, kinda like your average C student.

And the films featured on the second night left me feeling the same way. The very rousing intro Tristan Taormino gave to the Public. Provocative. Porn screening and panel discussion with, Carlos Batts, Cheryl Dunye, Jaiya and Drew Deveaux, was about as hot things got for me that night. Once again I’d describe what I saw and heard that evening as interesting. Funny, educational and interesting, earning the event a B- on my hotness scale.

But things completely turned around on the very last night of the FPAs. The fabulous people at Good For Her saved the mouth watering, nipple stiffening and nether region tingling best for the last night: the night of the VIP Party and actual awards show. The four of us (the lovely @hl_bb, joined our crew on Friday night) sat perched on the edge of our seats as we watched all the action on stage. Once they started handing out those cute little butt plug awards (to see the list of winning films from each category click here), it was clip after clip of the most scorchin’ hot solo, girl-girl, group, kinky, swinging, queer, and/or straight sex you could imagine.

And when our minds weren’t being blown by the on screen spectacle , we were treated to burlesque performances by Coco La Creme and Boylesque TO (my new “favouritest” dance troupe); Ryan’s funny interviews with various performers and audience members; and the incredible antics of the many presenters – in particular those of Miss Fluffy Souffle.

and after. Oh, dear.
All around it was truly an AMAZING night, and I haven’t even told you about the fantastic food or all the cute women rocking their very androgynous ‘butch easy’ (to borrow a Jiz Lee-ism) styles. That said, the hotter-than-I-could-have-ever-imagined final night of the FPAs scored an A+++ on my hotness metre. No joke.
So, if you’re a smart perv like me (and I’m guessing most of you are as you read this blog) you’ll be sure to get in on the action by getting your butts to the FPAs next year. You’ll definitely see me drooling all over myself with my legs cressed – TIGHT there.

SAM SHARPE

Cheryl Dunye, director of Sam's choice for must see film, Mommy is Coming.
Hey folks. I’m going to second what Skye had to say with one proviso; I actually found the Thursday night flicks to be pretty stimulating. Not in an I can’t wait to go home and rub one out kind of way but in a man that’s interesting and I never viewed things in that light kind of way. And things that stimulate my thought processes are just as much a turn on as things that stimulate my loins.
And though I found something to enjoy in each of Thursday night’s flicks I want to give a special shutout to Cheryl Dunye and crew for birthing Mommy Is Coming. Based on the clips I saw this flick is a must see. Must. See. The humour, sensuality, sexuality and sheer humanity depicted on screen was irresistible. Also, I must say this film featured the best use of the term “Motherfucker” this side of Samuel L. Jackson. Seriously folks, if you’re the sex positive type (and if you’re reading this blog you better be), don’t miss Mommy Is Coming.
What can I say about Friday? I had a rolling good time. Easily one of the best nights I’ve had in 2011. So let me share with you three things I learned by attending the FPAs:
1. Good For Her Rocks: Their advocacy for all things sex positive made them an institution in this city. Well, the good people at Good For Her also know how to throw a good party. I’ve only been to the store once. That is going to change. Indeed, what’s good for her is good for me.

Pictured from right to left: Jiz Lee, Judy Minx and unknown participant at the awards show.
2. Jiz Lee is one sexy motherfucker: I could try to itemize Jiz’s physical features for you, try to paint a picture with words in order to capture what makes Jiz sexy. But you really have to see Jiz in action to understand. Onscreen Jiz moves like a lion. In person Jiz moves with the kind of self possession and self awareness my characterization implies. (At one point in the evening I found myself standing next to Jiz. I’m not the starstruck type or a fanboy or anything but I was way too chickensh** to say anything) Knowledge of self thy name is Jiz. I’ve always found knowledge sexy.

Anna Devia, adult filmmaker and Drew Deveaux, winner of the 2011 Heartthrob of the Year Award. Two women who understand that sexy is indeed a state of mind.
3. Sexy is a state of mind: I loved watching people of different shapes, sizes, colours, genders and orientation being themselves and expressing that sense of self through their sensuality and sexuality; whether onscreen or on the dance floor. I always believed it when I heard people say that the mind is the most important sexual organ. Now I know it.
I want to thank all the filmmakers and performers for creating and sharing their work; kudos to Good For Her for providing a forum for a lame a** like me to drink it all in. I found the vibe, the energy of the FPAs to be affirming; everything I’ve felt and I do feel about the importance of humans having sex and being sexual on their own terms was writ large. I can’t wait for next year.
Jiz Lee…Jiz Lee…Jiz Lee…Jiz Lee…Jiz Lee…Jiz Lee…Jiz Lee…Jiz Lee…Jiz Le…Jiz Lee…Jiz Lee…Jiz Lee…Jiz
