Perhaps you could help settle an argument between myself and my SO. I think that cock rings are meant to make guys stay hard for longer so they can have more fun. She says that they are meant to make the penis harder and are more for the other person’s pleasure. We’ve never tried a ring before but we noticed that our local sex shop has a ton of different kinds and we got curious. Seriously though, you have questions and I have answers, and there is much to learn my friends.

First off, as you so wisely noted there a lot of different types of rings on the market. Everything from vibrating, leather, rubber, textured, tight, stretchy remote-controlled and the list goes on. Your average adult store is has a veritable cornucopia of cock rings for your pleasure and amusement. Which one you choose depends on how you intend to use it.

If you’re looking to give your partner more of a buzz during intercourse, then by all means go for a vibrating option. It will stimulate the clitoris and your penis at the same time so that you both get to enjoy a little extra pizzazz without having to use your hands. Some guys also find that the continuous vibration temporarily desensitizes them a little bit. This desensitization can potentially lead to longer lovemaking sessions for those who tend to “pop off” earlier than they’d like.

Tight-fitting rings can also help men with erectile dysfunction to keep a hard on once they get it. The ring works by compressing the veins at the base of the penis and cutting off blood flow. A guy who can’t reliably achieve erection can use a pump to draw blood into the penis and then tie it off and go to town. Some guys might need to remove ring in order to ejaculate and some may find that step unnecessary. Regardless of what works for you, please be aware that cutting off the flow of blood to any part of your body for a significant length of time can have disastrous results. Beginners should start with a 10 minute trial period and see how that feels. Even experienced users should never leave a ring on for more than half an hour. Set a timer if you have to.

Some rings are too stretchy to affect blood flow but do have textured nubs designed for your partner’s pleasure. Many people purchase them simply because they like the way they feel. A ring, whether stretchy or tight provides a nice, firm hug at the base of the penis. Now I don’t know about you but I’ve never yet met a penis that didn’t like a nice firm “hug.” Next time you’re in your local sex shop pick out a ring to try. Just make sure it’s easy to remove and comfortable to wear. I’m sure your penis will thank you.
