What’s the one thing you now know about sex, dating and relationships that you wish someone had told you when you were a kid?

I grew up in a religious household, so before I became sexually active I saw it as a rite of passage that came with marriage. I still think of it as something sacred, but if I had a different mindset growing up I might have had more meaningful sexual experiences once I started actually having it. Whereas I once thought of sex as off-limits and clinical, I now embrace it as beautifully expressive and mind-opening.

What’s the sexiest pick up line you’ve ever heard? How did you respond?

I was coming home from a day of surfing, with my board in hand and my unzipped wetsuit hanging over my shorts. An attractive woman walked past me and said, “Wow, you’re…perfect”. It wasn’t even the words as much as the look on her face that said she was some incredible combination of turned on, impressed and wanting me. I was so stunned that in the minute it took me to understand what happened she dashed off, no doubt embarrassed by my dazed look and lack of response.

When it comes to monogamy, on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being “I’m wide open” and 10 being “I’m not just closed, my shit is on lock” where do you fall?

10. As I said above, sex is very personal to me and the way I experience it with a woman makes the relationship something to be cherished, nurtured and protected.

How do you think the dating and mating scene would change if men had a limited number of ejaculations, say 10 000 over a lifetime, and women had an unlimited supply of healthy, viable eggs well into their 60s?

I think rich men would pay to put their sperm on ice and the less affluent would be more careful about who they have sex with. The result would be a sexual aristocracy where rich men have sex at will…But then again, how is that any different than what we have now?

You’re on your death bed and the grim reaper takes pity on you, offering you a choice between spending 24 hours having the BEST sex of your life OR 365 more totally sexless (not even a dry hump!) and masturbation free days to live here on planet earth. Which would you choose?

365 days. Sex isn’t the only thing I enjoy about life, and it’s also not the only thing that makes a romantic relationship special. With that in mind, it’s not hard for me to pass up a day of great sex for a year of walks in the park, falling asleep in my partner’s arms, exploring the world together…
