Come and Talk to Me… (In London!)

Inspired by the musings of Her Lil’ Black Book, Miss Love Lippz and Skye from MetAnotherFrog.com on June 23rd in Toronto, ten men competed to seduce the city’s finest female bloggers by the spoken word.

Now – Come and Talk to Me arrives in London, presented by MetAnotherFrog.com at Sh! Women’s Emporium (Portobello).

This event aims to settle the debate about whether or not modern men can actually hold a decent conversation. Has sexting replaced dirty talk? Has an hour-long G-Chat session replaced the “until the sun rose” marathon phone calls of the past?

Come and Talk to Me is our effort to find the man who understands that great wordplay can be the most electrifying foreplay; that to unlock her legs, he must first unlock her mind.  More than a few good Canadian men rose to the challenge – will you?

Participants can take the stage to talk about anything they choose. They can read a passage from a book, tell the judges about their day at work or engage a lady in the audience in some sexy small talk; anything to assure women that the art of conversation is not entirely lost.

Judges will provide feedback and the ladies in the audience will cast votes. The night will end with one man being named London’s most cunning linguist and the bloggers will extol the virtues of his silver tongue (and of course give away prizes). Other than the delights of our competitors’ efforts the audience will also be treated to readings by our headliner; as well as cupcakes and refreshments.

There are only about 8 spots available to compete. To register, send an email with your name, contact info and your proposed topic to erose@metanotherfrog.com before August 8th, 2011.

2011.

A few weeks ago I issued a challenge: to approach a woman and just have a conversation with her.

*crickets*

As a woman who loves words, I really worry about some of you and your conversation skills. I also hear the stories (many, many stories) of awkward conversations, the texts instead of phone calls, and the lack of conversation topics period. Even after wracking my brains I could only bestow the title of “conversationalist” on two males. Two.

Personally, I have one major pet peeve when I hear some of you talk:  not all women are the same! So many of you talk to all women in the exact same way. Do you talk to your boys in the same way your talk to your (male) boss?  The guy at the gas station? Your accountant? I doubt it. I know so many of you who use the same cajoling flirty way to talk to all women: the one checking your groceries, the girl in the club, your dental hygienist, the girl your interested in. There’s a way to flirt and be that guy with DSS (check the glossary for a definition) but there’s also a way to talk to us on our level.

I get it. There’s that whole stereotype that men don’t like to talk. I’m not talking about a “let’s talk about our feelings” type of convo, I’m talking about using words to unlock her mental chastity belt. I’ve been struggling on how to advise you darling boys on this matter…provide suggestions. But it all came up short.

Until last night.

Last night, Mizz Love Lippz posted a link leading to this piece;  which triggered a conversation between us and Skye over at Met Another Frog. We’re writers, so of course we love books. Turns out, we get turned on by men who read books. The more you read, the better you are at speaking… Darlings, I’m thinking that if you learn how to turn a phrase, you can increase your chances of turning her out.

So we want to give you a chance. I’m going to pick a night in June, get a bunch of ladies there as your audience and have you read to us. Read anything: your own works…an excerpt from a book…lyrics to your favourite song…hell, you can even pull a woman up on stage and talk to her about the weather!

The idea is to engage us, intrigue us, and yes, turn us on.

I’m looking for 10 of you to come out and Talk to Me.

Three judges (Skye, Savannah and Max Logic) will provide you with feedback…the ladies in the audience will vote and we will declare one of you our favourite cunning linguist.

(Oh yes: we decided that you automatically get 10 points if you do it shirtless.)

So…darling boys…what say you?

For those of you who are feeling brave enough to consider registering to talk to us ladies, please note that as of today – May 31, 2011 – only five spots remain. So hurry up and send an email with your name, contact info and your proposed topic to talktome@herlilblackbook.com before June 9,
2011.

Come on out to Come and Talk To Me, at the Tequila Bookworm, located at 512 Queen St. West in Toronto on June 23rd, 2011. Doors 8:30pm. FREE.

Yours Truly,

@hl_bb.

Thursday, Sept 30th, 2010 marked the one year anniversary (where did all that time go?) of the day we launched our little blog that could – MetAnotherFrog.com. Our first year has been one hell of a ride and we’re all looking forward to keeping the good times rolling in the years to come. And speaking of good times…

"Let's PARTY people!"

Boob-a-licious FUN!

How many of you out there remember the fun we had at our launch party last October? I know those of you who were lucky enough to attend can attest to the fact that we here at MetAnotherFrog.com know how to throw a real good party (but then again how could loads of bouncing boobs, jokes and sex toys, not add up to a good party?), because many of you have been steady asking us for months now ‘When is the next party?’ Well folks, your looong wait for our follow up bash is about to come to an end, because…

On Saturday October 16 @ The Korova Milk Bar (488 College St.) in downtown Toronto, Elizabeth, Sam and I are throwing MetAnotherFrog.com’s First Anniversary Party , in celebration of our first year out here in cyberspace. This time out there’ll be music, dancing, and lots of pervy people who enjoy reading the fun filth we offer up on this blog just as much as you do. There may even be a draw for a prize or two.

So, grab a friend or three, and come on out to shake your groove thing like its October 2009. (FYI: Admission is $8 all night. Doors open at 9pm.)

See you on the dance floor,

Skye
