After a week of being sick, changing my nail color was the last thing I was thinking about doing. I was in no mood to take the time and paint my nails. Instead, I thought I would attempt to do “newspaper nails” over the color I was already wearing, since it’s such a light color (Kim-Pletely in Love – Nicole by O.P.I). This was my very first attempt at doing newspaper nails. It didn’t come out as good as I would have liked it to, but it was a different look and I was satisfied with it….for the time being. It can be a little time consuming but it’s actually really easy to do. All you need is a newspaper, rubbing alcohol (can also try vodka or hand sanitizer), and paper towels or cotton balls.
Step 1: Paint your nails a very light color as the base. The lighter the better — white probably works best but nudes work okay, too.
Step 2: Cut out 10 strips of text from the newspaper that are big enough to fit over your nails. If you’d like, you can even search the paper for specific words that you want to put on your nails.
Step 3: Put the strip over your nail and rub rubbing alcohol over the newspaper with a cotton ball. If you don’t have rubbing alcohol you can try using vodka. I used hand sanitizer and it worked out just.. okay. I have a feeling that if I was to use 100% rubbing alcohol the text would have showed up better. I was having a hard time getting the words to transfer to my nails.
Step 4: Go over your nails with a clear top coat to help your newspaper nails last longer and cover-up any imperfections.
